Biographies

  • Markus Frind is the CEO and Board Director for Cymax Group Technologies.

    Markus has been part of the company since 2015 when he invested in the company and has been on the Board of Directors for over 9 years. He is a technology industry thought-leader and the founder of Plenty of Fish Media Inc. which sold to Match Group (Match.com) in 2015.

    In addition, he is CEO of Frind Properties and Proprietor of award-winning Frind Estate Winery in West Kelowna where he combines his passions for technology and agriculture.

  • Mike Herenberg is the Chief Operating Officer for Cymax Group Technologies. He oversees and directs the end-to-end operations, customer service and experience, eCommerce order fulfillment, marketing and communications, people, and culture, as well as driving cross-functional performance across the organization at large.

    He brings over 25 years' experience in global environments with deep expertise in both public and private companies across multiple business operating models including SaaS, Automotive, Telecommunications and Consulting serving SMB, Enterprise, and Government. Mike has successfully led transformational change for high growth technology companies.

    A strong operator with broad general management and technical expertise, he has led multiple functions including Finance, Data Analytics, Product Management, Software Development, Information Technology & Cybersecurity, HR and People & Culture, Customer Experience Management (XM, CX, VoC), Account Management, Business Development & Sales, Marketing & Communications, Operations and Customer Service & Contact Centres.

    Previously, Mike was the COO at Quorum Information Technologies (QIS.TSX.V), and before that, was the Vice President of Product Strategy and Customer Experience for North America, Chief Operations Officer for Canada for Element Fleet Management (EFN.TSX) and President, Vice President, GM, Northern BI for Kerr Group of Companies. Mike has held board positions with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB / INCA), Cole Harbour Parks & Trails Association and Taxi Charger.

    Mike is passionate about mentorship and community involvement, actively supporting both Futurpreneur, and Junior Achievement in the local communities.

    Mike holds an MBA from the Sobey’s School of Business, Saint Mary’s University; a Masters Certificate in Project Management from the Schulich School of Business, York University; and a Certificate in Financial Management from Saint Mary’s University.

  • Shouvik Roy is the Chief Financial Officer for Cymax Group Technologies. He oversees finance and accounting, planning & analysis, treasury, tax, investor relations, legal, and supports strategy execution across the business.

    He brings two decades of extensive financial leadership experience in private and public organizations, from fast-growing start-ups to global leaders in the technology, SaaS, and manufacturing industries. Shouvik has excellent people management skills and has led various finance functions including fundraising, treasury management, business operations, investor relations, accounting, controllership, financial planning and analysis. He has experience leading long-range planning, as well as M&A and process improvements.

    Previously, Shouvik served as Chief Financial Officer for Drop Technologies Inc, a leading eCommerce rewards platform, and VersaPay (TSX-V, VPY), a publicly-listed fintech company based in Toronto. He has also held senior finance positions at global brands including FreshBooks, Linamar (TSX, LNR), and Nike (NYSE, NKE).

    Shouvik graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University, where he earned an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration and currently holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation. In 2017, he trained in Financial Modelling and Business Valuations with the Investment Banking Institute.

  • Brad Kent is the Chief Technology Officer for Cymax Group Technologies. He oversees product management, software and data engineering, machine learning, pricing, and technology operations.

    Previously, Brad was Vice President of Analytics and Engineering at Cymax Group and Vice President of Analytics and Insights at LoyaltyOne. He has also held senior leadership positions at Workopolis (now Indeed) and BlackBerry. He brings more than two decades of deep experience in data engineering, business intelligence, analytics, programming, and machine learning.

    Brad graduated from Wilfred Laurier University, where he earned a BBA in Business and Economics and holds a Master of Management in Analytics from Queens University. He holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

  • Kim Kaplan is Senior Vice President, General Manager, eCommerce at Cymax Group.

    She oversees Marketplaces, Merchandising, Partner Programs, Vendor Account Management, and Marketing.

    Kim launched her career as one of the earliest employees at the dating platform PlentyOfFish (POF), leading product, marketing and revenue initiatives. Her product initiatives ultimately grew Daily Active Users from 1 million to over 4 million and revenue from $10 million to over $100 million. Kim’s role as an instrumental part of the executive team culminated in the successful Match Group acquisition for US $575 million in 2015. Following the acquisition, she expanded her role within Match Group to include GM of Match Latin America.

    Since leaving Match Group, Kim became an angel investor, advised a number of startups and founded Snack, a Gen Z AI focused dating app. She continues to be passionate about helping companies scale and remains active in the Canadian tech ecosystem. Kim currently holds a board position at Tangerine bank and is a mentor at Creative Destruction Labs.

    Kim holds a Master’s Degree in International Business from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and a Bachelor of Arts Honours (BAH) from Queen’s University.

  • Gord Elder is Vice President of Product for Cymax Group Technologies.

    He oversees product strategy and execution for the business, which includes Channel Gate, an AI-powered multichannel platform, our boutique marketplaces Homesquare.com and Cymax.com, and Freight Club, an all-in-one shipping platform for retailers.

    Previously, Gord was Vice President of Products at Ignite Technologies, where he oversaw a portfolio of six suites of over 30 diverse B2B software solutions, ranging from digital engagement solutions for sales and marketing teams to customer experience management solutions. Gord was also a co-founder and Chief Product Officer at ResponseTek, an innovative B2B SaaS solution for customer experience management where he helped lead growth of the platform across a global client base of enterprise customers. Gord brings more than two decades of deep experience in product innovation and development, product management, software development and, management of technology infrastructure in SaaS, martech, automation, and eCommerce.

    Passionate about contributing to the technology industry, Gord is a member of the BC Tech Product C-Council, and a Founding Ambassador of ex-XO, a global, professional network of highly skilled technology industry professionals from around the world. Gord also supports innovation through mentorship, and he is a Mentor at Beedie School of Business and ProductBC, helping aspiring product managers to build their skills.

    Gord holds an MBA in Management of Technology from Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University. And previous to that graduated from the University of Manitoba, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering.

  • Charmaine Claasens is Vice President of Marketing & Communications for Cymax Group Technologies. She oversees the Marketing & Communications Strategy and Brand Management for the business including go-to-market planning, product marketing, corporate communications, and internal communications.

    Charmaine joined Cymax Group from MEC where she served as their CMO. Before that, she was the Executive Head of Marketing & eCommerce for Totalsports at The Foschini Group (TFG Pty Ltd) in Cape Town, South Africa. Charmaine brings over two decades of experience in international marketing strategy, brand management, customer experience management (VOC, CX, XM), customer lifecycle marketing, and consumer behavior.

    Charmaine is passionate about continued professional development and regularly pursues learning opportunities to expand her domain expertise. Most recently, she has completed training in digital marketing and digital psychology. She is focused on marketing leadership as part of the Fluency Leadership Inc. Marketing Leadership Collective.

    Charmaine graduated from the AAA School of Advertising with specialization in Visual Communications and holds a diploma in Business Management from the University of South Africa.

  • Tom Glover is the Vice President of Analytics for Cymax Group Technologies. He oversees insight delivery across business intelligence (BI), pricing & promotions, digital analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and data engineering.

    Previously Tom was the Director of Business Analytics at Cymax Group and AVP, Analytics & Insights at LoyaltyOne. Tom brings 15 years’ experience building high performing analytical teams and has a proven track record of delivering business results through data, having consulted several marquee Canadian brands in the loyalty, retail, technology, and financial sectors.

    Tom holds a BComm in Operations Management from the Haskayne School of Business in Calgary and is an active mentor for analytics practitioners at various levels.

  • Nicolas Chen is Vice President of Operations for Cymax Group.

    He oversees Customer Service, eCommerce Channel Operations, Freight Club Operations and Continuous Improvement.

    Nic brings over a decade of experience in leadership roles with substantial expertise in customer service contact centre experience, process improvement, and operations strategy.

    Nic was previously Director of Contact Centre at NewAge Products where he led an award-winning team and built several departments from the ground up. Most recently, Nic was Director of Contact Centre at Cymax Group before being promoted to VP of Operations.

  • Kaly Yeske is Vice President of Finance for Cymax Group Technologies.

    She leads day-to-day operations in our finance division, driving best practice across our teams while overseeing all financial policies and procedures. She supports the execution of financial strategy and Cymax Group's pursuit of operational excellence.

    Kaly brings over a decade of experience in finance and accounting. She has successfully led largescale system implementations, offered financial consultancy, and driven financial transformation. Prior to joining Cymax Group, Kaly was Senior Director of Finance at Rocky Mountaineer, Director of Transaction Services and Project Accounting at Aritzia, and most recently – Director of Finance at Article.

    Kaly graduated from the University of Alberta where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and currently holds a CPA, CA designation.
