Choosing Growth: Making AI a part of your team

Written by Brad Kent, Chief Technology Officer

While the hype cycle around it may be new, artificial intelligence has been making its impact for quite some time.

The expression “I don’t know what I don’t know” has never been truer as businesses with expertise in distinct sectors are being asked to invest in technology that they may not have the resources or support to pursue.

The opportunities offered by AI are desirable, but they quickly fall short when they aren’t paired with the disciplines and competencies required to succeed. Leaders may feel like they are climbing an uphill battle, trying to find the right balance between the efficiencies offered by AI and the uncertainties that a success strategy brings.

Unfortunately, it is not realistic to flip a switch and spend your way into being a highly competitive AI-driven company. You are likely to see some quick wins; however, you’ll quickly find that you haven’t invested enough into your data, your organization isn't immediately embracing AI, and that integrating AI into your business processes is a lot harder than simply spinning up a small proof-of-concept. This is a luxury that few companies experience as it takes years of focus and adaptation to establish.

When I started as VP of Analytics in 2021 (now Chief Technology Officer), Cymax Group Technologies was already years into their path towards technological excellence. They had a great foundation of data and several integrations that got me excited about the future. Our teams have moved mountains since then, but it did not come quickly. It takes time to find the right talent, choose the most effective strategies, and learn what algorithms most effectively solve and support business rhythms.

Largely, we work with furniture manufacturers. In simple terms - they want to sell their products to the right audience, for the right price, at the right time. For most, it doesn't make sense to dedicate years of their time to deeply understanding functions like machine learning, language processing, or visual AI. By partnering with us, they don’t have to.

Our products use technology to simplify the complexities of eCommerce. We ensure that manufacturers and retailers get to experience the benefits offered by leading AI capabilities without having to sacrifice their time and resources to do so.

Our robust technology team is filled with extremely talented people. Each one of them brings something different to the table and that is what strengthens us. We work closely with cross functional teams across Cymax Group to identify and build the functions and efficiencies that enable success for our partners.

If you are considering making the leap and bringing artificial intelligence into your business, you are on the right path. That being said, remember that creating a true capacity like AI takes a significant amount of time and focus.   Those looking for quick fixes and panaceas may be disappointed or worse, taint people’s perception of what AI can do.
